Wedding Photography – Dalziel Park

It gives me great pleasure to show you a sneak peeks of some of my favourite pictures from Karen and Craigs wedding that was held 2 days ago. I recognised so many faces at this wedding as just over 1 year ago (1/7/16) Karen’s brother Brendon got married to Rachel and I was their photographer also (https://www.aleckirkham.co.uk/wedding-photography-cornhill-house-hotel/)

I went to Karen mums house in the morning to capture some final preparation pictures, this time I went to the correct address (thanks Rachael for reminding me of that one). The atmosphere in the house was very relaxed and tranquil with none of the usual coming and goings from the house or last minute panic phone calls, I think this was mostly to do with Karens brilliant organisational skills. I also need to say a massive thanks to Karen’s mum (Maureen) for setting out all of the dresses making my life really easy when it came to taking some picture of the dresses before they were put on. After capturing some pictures I left the house where everyone was all dressed and ready.

Arriving at the church (St Ignatius, Wishaw) I had a moment of worry, and I am sure mosts of the arriving guests did when we saw the ambulance sitting outside of the church. As it turned out Craigs nerves had not got the better of him, but someone had taken ill during the church service earlier that morning.

Craig was doing some pacing at the front of the church awaiting the arrival of Karen who did turn up a few minutes late as tradition dictates 🙂 . It was a lovely service and I was able to get some great pictures from the front and also from the choir loft at the rear of the church. I also had a surprise when one of the guest introduced themselves by saying I was photographing their wedding next year. Turned out to be Nicola and Jamie who have booked me to photograph their wedding next Aug, it’s a small world.

The reception was being held at Dalziel park in Motherwell. On arrival at the venue the weather took a turn to the worst and the rain started. Karen and Craig escaped indoors and spent some time with their family and friends. Thankfully the rain was just a passing shower  and we were able to get everyone outside for a large group picture, kudos to Rachel and her teachers voice, she was able to get everyone outside with just a few well chosen authoritarian words. We had quite a few requested group to do but like everything else on the day this went like clockwork, again Rachel and the other bridesmaids worked through the list and quickly rounded up all of the groups. Once these were done I was able to spend 10 mins with Karen and Craig getting some pictures of them on their own.

By this point everyone was looking forward to their meal; however the nerve racking speeches were first. These went without a hitch and the best man’s speech was very tame compared to some I have heard in the past. After the meal everyone was looking forward to a party; with the band setup the first dance was on time and after that the party was well and truly underway. One last  treat for the guests was one of our photo booths. Everyone loved the booth, people just do not seem to get tired of dressing up in ridiculous props and getting their pictures taken.

It was a brilliant day and a great crowd to photograph. Perhaps I will see some of the guest again in another years time at Nicola and Jamies wedding 🙂

Here are a small selection of the many great pictures taken during the day.
