New Lanark Engagement Session by Alec Kirkham

photocrati galleryLaura and Helio are getting married in a few weeks time and I thought it would be a good idea if we could meet up at the location of their wedding (New Lanark) to discuss the final details for the day and also to take a few pictures of the couple together. We spent a few hours wandering around the World Heritage site discussing the wedding day and I took some fun and informal pictures of them. After the first few shots the couple were able to relax which having their pictures taken and started to have some fun.

Home Portraiture Session by Alec Kirkham

I did a home portraiture photo session for the Armstrong family at the weekend. The 2 children Alistair (almost 2yrs) and Rose (3 months) were to be the main focus however we also made time for some family shots also. As these pictures were taken in the clients own home I had some setup to do before hand.

I thought it would be useful to list the equipment used and set-up for this shoot.

Angry Birds by Alec Kirkham

I went along to a family falconry day recently, where we all got an opportunity to learn about lots of different birds of pray as well as handle and fly them. Everyone had a great day and as ever I took a camera along to capture a few images of the family and the birds. The included slide show is made up from some of the pictures taken. Some of you may recognise the backing track as it was quite appropriate.

Suzanne & Stephen’s Wedding Day by Alec Kirkham

Suzanne and Stephen have been planning this day for a long time so when it eventually arrived you could see the excitement in everyone’s faces. The venue chosen for the wedding was the Burgh Hall in Pollokshaws Glasgow. This unique location within leafy Maxwell Park and the beautiful interior makes the Burgh Hall an extremely special venue for any event. Once again the weather was a concern on the day, we wanted to take advantage of the Maxwell park gardens however the forecast was for heavy rain in the afternoon. Thankfully we managed to get a nice selection of pictures outside before the rain eventually arrived. The whole day went very smoothly and everyone seemed to be having a great time. Below are a few of the images captures during the day.

My Children in the Studio by Alec Kirkham

I was in the studio last weekend photographing a few different families; however I also wanted to get some new picture of my 3 children, one of the most feared and challenging scenario, having to photograph your own children. As it transpired they were all well behaved and I managed to get some pretty good shots. The attached slide show is made up from just a few of the images taken during this session.

Skye Trip Journal – Sunrise 1 – Quiraing by Alec Kirkham

My first sunrise on this trip was to be over the prehistoric landsacpe on the North East cost of Skye, this area is know as the Quiraing.

The Quiraing is a landslip on the eastern face of Meall na Suiramach, the northernmost summit of the Trotternish Ridge on the Isle of Skye. The whole of the Trotternish Ridge escarpment was formed by a great series of landslips; the Quiraing is the only part of the slip still moving, the road at its base near Flodigarry requires repairs each year.

Parts of the distinctive landscape have earned particular names. The Needle is a jagged 120-foot (37 m) high landmark pinnacle, a remnant of landslipping. Northwest of it is The Table, a flat grassy area slipped down from the summit plateau, with vistas of the Torridon Hills and the mountains of Wester Ross. Southwest is the Prison, a pyramidal rocky peak which can look like a medieval keep when viewed from the right angle.

Burgh Hall e-session with Stephen & Suzanne by Alec Kirkham

Stephen and Suzanne are getting married in a few weeks so we thought it would be a good idea to meet up at the venue to discus final details. Is was also a great opportunity for the two of them to spend some time in front of the camera. For many people getting their picture is a daunting thought and this leads to images where the model looks uncomfortable and stiff in the images.  Having a chance to work with your photographer before your wedding day will help you feel more comfortable and relaxed for your pictures on your wedding day. Both Stephen and Suzanne were very relaxed and comfortable for most of their pictures resulting in some great images.
