Kids Studio Session

I was testing some of my new studio equipment so my kids were really excited (not) to find out I was doing an impromptu studio session with them 🙂 Here are some of the images captured

Studio Background Exposure

During my recent studio lighting course we were having a discussion about the merits of getting the exposure correct for the backgrounds. I have attached a few images to show the benefits that can be gained with very little Photoshopping involved

100 White BG

I was able to easily crop this image (background colour set to white)

102 White BG

I could also easily replace the white background with any image of choice

101 White BG

This time using a black background and some coloured lighting

200 Black BG

It was easy to replace the background with another image with a similar lighting pattern

201 Black BG

A little time and attention while taking the picture can save you a lot of time when it comes to editing them 🙂

Studio Lighting Workshop

I ran another lighting workshop on Saturday at the Summerlee Photographic Studios. This course was run for 10 delegates with various levels of experience but all with a keen interest in photography  and wanting to know more. The course is run with emphasis on the delegates getting practical experience of using the lights to create interesting/dynamic images and at the same time trying to simplify some of the mysteries around studio lighting. here are just a few of the images taken during the session with some setup information.

If you would like to attend a studio or flash lighting course in order to improve your images please get in touch to discuss availability.

First Unofficial Shots From The New Studio

I actually had a chance to take a few pictures today in the studio. This was not preplanned or set-up, it was just a quick dash for the camera to captured a few shots of the kids, who to be fare where not in the best of moods as it was just before lunch and they were complaining of being too hungry.

So these images were straight out of the camera and I only use the natural light in the studio and not even a reflector.

My New Studio Project by Alec Kirkham

Today the builders arrived (www.britton-joinery.co.uk/) to start work on my house. The idea is to build an extension to the rear of the property, the new room will be approx 3.5m x 8.5m in size and will double as a family room as well as my new photography studio. It has always been a dream of mine to have my own studio at home, now I will do in approx. 6 weeks time 🙂 The design of the extension and the inclusion of 5m of folding glass doors plus skylights will allow enough light to enter the room so I can have a natural light studio, but at the same time I will have black out blinds installed so I can have complete control of the light and allow me to use studio strobes also.

I intend to blog the progress of the build from start to completion and then finish with some shots from the first photoshoot.
