I had great fun yesterday photographing Jennifer and Derek’s wedding. Thankfully we had one nice day after a foul week of weather; however one rain shower did catch us by surprise just as we all left the church. I have never seen a crowd of guests disappear so quickly. Jennifer was getting ready and leaving from here parents house which was conveniently very close to the church and a beautiful setting for here final preparation pictures. A big thank you to Jennifer, her bridesmaids and her parents for making me feel very welcome into their lovely home. The wedding reception was held at the Avonbridge hotel in Hamilton. Thanks to the kind weather we were able to use the hotels gardens to capture some images of the guest and of Jennifer and Derek, both of whom made my job very easy. The whole day went very smoothly and I would just like to thank both Jennifer and Derek once again for asking me to be their wedding photographer. Here is a sneaky peek at of some of my favourite pictures captures on the day. Any guest who attended the day will be able to view the entire collection using the following link https://www.aleckirkham.co.uk/client-gallery-wedding/
Blair Drummond Safari – By Alec Kirkham
It was time for our annual family pilgrimage to Blair Drummond Safari Park. The children were very exited however my youngest boy Sam (3) was a bit concerned that the lions where going to have him for lunch thanks to his big brother. As every I did back a bag with a camera to capture a few snaps of the animals if the opportunity arose. When photographing animals in safari parks or zoos the hardest thing is trying to exclude any man made items from the background. Using a really wide aperture will help isolate the subject and blur the background however as the photographer you can make a big difference to the image by being aware of the background and also by applying appropriate in camera cropping. Here a few images I took during the visit: –
Stephen & Rachael in Kinlochard – Wedding photography by Alec Kirkham
I have been looking forward to photographing this wedding for quite some time. For one they are a lovely couple and two the location was stunning, right on the edge of Loch Ard, a very frequent haunt for any self respecting landscape photographer. As the day grew closer the only issue looked to be the weather forecast and in good Scottish tradition the weather just did not want to play ball on the day. In the morning the weather was fantastic however as we approached the time for the wedding the dark ominous clouds gathered and the rain started. Thankfully this did not dampen the spirits of Stephen and Rachael and there were many an umbrella to be had. Plus a very special thanks to the happy couple themselves, as they were determined to get some pictures outside in some of their favourite locations.
New Born – Baby Kasey by Alec Kirkham
Thanks to Naila and David for asking me to photography their 5 week old baby girl Kasey. Kasey’s first photoshoot went really well and she was very well behaved during the whole process (well almost all). Here is a sneak peek of some of the images captured during the session.
Ring-a-Ring-a-Roses
Sometimes the bride, groom and wedding guests will look at you funny and question what you have asked them to do, this was one such instance. Once we had sorted out that we were turning clockwise and not anti-clockwise I made the guest go faster and faster, the image I had in my head was to get the guests blurred as they circled around the bride and groom. The indoor conditions were dark enough to allow me to slow my shutter speed enough to accomplish this. The light on the bride and groom was supplied via an off camera speedlite (flash) fired through a translucent umbrella held by my assistant just outside of the camera frame. I love creating images that are a bit different plus it injects an element of fun into the picture taking and as it turned out this is the Groom favourite picture.
Into The Wild
I had a weekend of from weddings and babies. It was time for me to spend some quality time with my eldest son Aaron (aged 9) and his cousin Zack (aged 6). For the last 3 years we have went away during the Easter break to do a spot of camping on the shores of Loch Lomond. With just a two man tent, a single ring gas burner and a good thick sleeping bag we set off to get back in touch with nature. No electronic stimulation (no DS, no Wii and no TV) just the great outdoors for entertainment. Oh and me I just couldn’t bare to be parted from at least one of my cameras.
Baby Portraiture – Baby Bradley by Alec Kirkham
Baby Bradley is 5 months old and another baby who did not mind getting his picture taken, making my life much easier. During the hour photo session he very patiently sat/lay while I snapped away. Early morning session definitely seem to be the best when photographing young children. I have added a few of my favourite pictures below, hopefully Bradley’s parents like them and some time soon one or two may be printed, framed and on show. Anyone interested in have some pictures taken of their young children in the comfort of their own home then please get in touch. My details are available on my website https://www.aleckirkham.co.uk/contact-2/
Baby Portraiture – Baby Kyle by Alec Kirkham
Baby Kyle is now 14 weeks old and proud mum and dad Joanna and Graham asked me if I could take some pictures of the little one. I first met Joanna and Graham when I photographed their wedding at the beginning of 2011 so I was delighted when they asked if I could take some pictures of Kyle. It was a very calm and relaxed photo session and Kyle was a little superstar as he did not mind having his picture taken at all. Perhaps I will see him again for another session when he is able to sit up and starting to crawl. Continue reading
David & Gillian Wedding at Airth Castle – Wedding Photography by Alec Kirkham
David and Gillian were very exited about there wedding day to be held at the lovely location of Airth Castle. The service was held in the old castle and the evening reception was held in the hotel & spa complex. the weather on the day started off with a few spots of rain however as the day went on the weather continued to improve, so much so we had blue sky in the evening. I was there with my assistance Keith to catch Gillian’s and David’s final preparations right through to the first dance in the evening. As ever with wedding days the time flew in however along the way we were able to get some stunning images that in years to come will remind the couple of just how special their day was. I have added a few of my favourites from the day.
New Born Portraiture – Baby Luke
Lorna and Mark asked my to take some picture of their brand new baby boy Luke. He may only be 2 weeks old however he knew he did not want to get his picture taken, but as ever with babies with some patience you will get a few good images which in years to come will always remind you just how small and delicate babies are when they first arrive.
