Sharon & Ross’s Recent Wedding Day by Alec Kirkham

After the recent spell of wet weather it was good to get outside and get some pictures for Sharon and Ross at Polkemmet Park. The whole day when without a hitch and everyone appeared to be having a great time. Here are a few of my favourite images captured on the day: –

The final one in my collection by Alec Kirkham

Just to complete my collection here is an image captured of my youngest, Sam. He’s always in a hurry to get anywhere and never sits still long enough for me to get any good pictures of him. This image was taken at the end of a long days outing which involved visiting a castle, a beach and a play park, so by the time I took this picture he had worn himself out.

I love the way that the long telephoto lens and wide aperture (Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS) compressed and blurs the background.

Another Quick Portrait by Alec Kirkham

This time its of my daughter, we were in a field and Lauren was picking some wild flowers. Normally she never wants to get her picture taken so I was very lucky to get this picture. Again this picture was captured in Raw and then converted in Lightroom. In Photoshop I applied so skin softening, sharpening and a vignette.  I also enhanced the blues in her eyes plus applied some colour to her lips to match the flowers.

Suzanne & Ben’s finalised wedding album by Alec Kirkham

Both Susanne and Ben were delighted with their wedding album and could not believe that they had it designed and printed within 3 weeks of their actual wedding date. Some bride and grooms are still waiting to see their proof prints up to 8 weeks after their weddings; I do not believe in keeping the couple waiting and I always strive to have the prints online to see within 2 days of the wedding day, I then have every printed and designed with a week.

Well here is Suzanne and Ben’s album who were so happy with my original design that they only made a few very minor changes: –

Puffins on the Isle of May by Alec Kirkham

Well puffins are what I was expecting to photograph today however here is the story. I have been waiting to go on a photographic trip to the Isle of May in the Forth estuary since booking the trip in Feb so I was really exited that the day had finally come. So after arranging for a days holiday and getting an early start I drove to sunny North Berwick where the boat was leaving from. When I arrived another dozen or so photographers were also waiting, with packed camera bags and fully of great expectations for the day ahead only to then find out that the trip had been cancelled because the waves were too large and the boat would not be able to land at the island. Boy did I feel disappointed however after speaking to two of the other photographers I did not feel so bad as they had travelled all the way from Bournemouth this week to visit both the Isle of May (Puffins) and the Bass Rock (Gannets) and they had both trips cancelled due to conditions. So I have travelled all the way to North Berwick, I have a days holiday and a packed camera bag, so nothing else to do but spend the day finding things to take pictures of in and around the East coast.

Jacqueline & David’s Wedding at New Lanark Mill by Alec Kirkham

The wedding on Saturday was a bit different as I was both a guest and also the official photographer. Jacqueline and Dave looked great on the day and as they had been planning for this day for some time there was nothing left to chance and everything went very smoothly apart from the good old Scottish weather; with perfect timing just as the wedding party and guests left the ceremony at the Musicians room the heavens opened and monsoon like rain lashed New Lanark for almost 2 hours. With no chance of taking pictures outdoors we were forced to capture the group pictures indoors within the limited space available in the New Lanark Hotel restaurant, thank fully there were no diners in at the time. After that we were all entertained with the speeches and a lovely meal. By the time the meal was over the rain had stopped and the sun had come out, sportingly the wedding party were up for going outside for some more pictures where we could take advantage of the wonderful location of New Lanark. Here is a sneak peek at some of the pictures captured on the day. P.S. it is way more stressful when taking pictures of friends with your family watching you.

Kerry & George’s Wedding at the Castlecary Hotel – by Alec Kirkham

I had great day photographing Kerry and George’s wedding yesterday. The day did not get off to the best of starts when the wedding party discovered that some items were missing from their kilt hire outfits; however friends rallied together and with a quick dash to the hire shop things got sorted. The next hurdle was major road works en-route to the hotel which caught a few unsuspecting guess out, in the end everyone arrived and enjoyed the wedding day. The weather once again was kind to us which meant we could go outside and get some pictures in the hotel grounds. Both Kerry and George were patient enough to allow me to capture some very special pictures that I am sure they will treasure for many year to come.

Suzanne & Ben’s Wedding at St Bartholmew Church and Hall with pictures taken at Viewpark Gardens, Uddingston.

I had the pleasure of photographing Suzanne and Ben’s wedding day yesterday. Everyone had a good day and really looked to be enjoying themselves. The weather again was kind to us and we were able to capture a great collection of images when we visited Viewpark Gardens in Uddingston before returning back to the church hall for the evening reception. Both Suzanne and Ben had previously let me know that they were both very nervous about getting their pictures taken; however both of them commented on how much fun they were having while getting their pictures taken and I think this definitely comes through in their pictures. A special thanks to Jack the page boy who is destined to become a photographer as he was full of questions and was always coming up with new ideas and suggestion for me to take pictures of the rest of the children present on the day.
