Alison & Paul are getting married this coming Saturday. As always I visited the venue just before the wedding day but we also took the opportunity to meet up. As ever I had my camera with me so I took a few picture of them; hopefully it gave them an insight into what to expect from me on their wedding day and they will feel more comfortable getting having pictures taken.

Jane & Ian’s Wedding Day at Crichton Church /Aston Hotel Dumfries by Alec Kirkham
The venue for Jane and Ian’s wedding was the spectacular Crichton Church found on the Crichton estate in Dumfries which dates back to 1834. This was to be a small and intimate wedding with only family and very close friends attending the ceremony. The day went without a hitch however even though it is now May the wind was bitterly cold, so in order to prevent frost bite we opted to take a lot of the pictures in and around the church building. The surrounding grounds would have provided some stunning backdrops to pictures however sometimes the weather dictates where you get your pictures taken. There was a chance for a few pictures as we made our way back to the hotel for the reception. Below are a few of my favourite pictures captured on the day.
My New Studio Project by Alec Kirkham
Today the builders arrived (www.britton-joinery.co.uk/) to start work on my house. The idea is to build an extension to the rear of the property, the new room will be approx 3.5m x 8.5m in size and will double as a family room as well as my new photography studio. It has always been a dream of mine to have my own studio at home, now I will do in approx. 6 weeks time 🙂 The design of the extension and the inclusion of 5m of folding glass doors plus skylights will allow enough light to enter the room so I can have a natural light studio, but at the same time I will have black out blinds installed so I can have complete control of the light and allow me to use studio strobes also.
I intend to blog the progress of the build from start to completion and then finish with some shots from the first photoshoot.

Home Portraiture Session 1 by Alec Kikrham
With young children it is sometimes better to do a photoshoot in the comfort and familiar settings of their own homes. It can be a very daunting experience for young children when they first walk into a studio not only is this a strange place full of strange equipment but they also have a stranger in the room me trying to take pictures. At least when doing this from their home there is only one strange element and again that is me trying to take pictures:)

Louise & Grant’s Wedding Day – Bothwell Bridge Hotel by Alec Kirkham
Some of my favourite shots from the wedding of Louise and Grant who had their service at St Athanasius Church in Carluke and then went on to have their reception at the Bothwell Bridge hotel in Bothwell. It was a great day and everyone looked to be having a great time.
Outdoor Portraits by Alec Kirkham
Some simple portraits taken recently while on some family days outs. This is my daughter Lauren who up until now has had a complete aversion to having her picture taken however recently she has been more willing, long may it continue 🙂
Walking in Yorkshire by Alec Kirkham
I had the chance to do some walking in Yorkshire recently despite the unseasonally bad weather. The high winds and snow drifting made for some very challenging conditions however a well planned route and an incentive to reach the pubs on time drove us always onwards towards our final destination. Here are a few of the images I took during the full days walking on the Saturday plus a little slide show.
