First Unofficial Shots From The New Studio

I actually had a chance to take a few pictures today in the studio. This was not preplanned or set-up, it was just a quick dash for the camera to captured a few shots of the kids, who to be fare where not in the best of moods as it was just before lunch and they were complaining of being too hungry.

So these images were straight out of the camera and I only use the natural light in the studio and not even a reflector.

Typical Events Set-up by Alec Kirkham

Here is my typical set-up when attending events. This was my set-up when photographing the Caldervale school prom at Dalzeil Park. It is definitely not as portable as my wedding kit and if it were to get any larger I think I would need a van to transport things around  Having set this up quite a few times now along with help from my assistant we are able to get everything set-up and ready for pictures and printing in approx. 15 mins.

Kilsyth Academy School Prom Event Photography 2013 by Alec Kirkham

I was asked to attend the Kilsyth Academy school prom this years which was held at Hampden Stadium. As the evenings official photographer I was there to make sure that everyone attending the event had the opportunity to have their picture taken. Everyone arrived in high spirits and dressed to the nines and it was not long before they were queuing for pictures. The shots varied throughout the night from individual, couple small groups and large groups shots. All of the images taken during the evening were instantly available to view on a large  monitor allowing the pupils to select any images that they liked. Any selected prints were then printed as a 6×9 photograph on the evening using state of the art dye-sublimation printers, mounted into a 11×6 card mount before being placed in a protective bag for transportation home. The pupils were all delighted to be taking home a prints from the evening which I am sure will be treasured for many years to come and be a constant reminder of this milestone event.

Here are just a few of the images captured during the event: –

Alec Kirkham a Featured Photographer – The Best Scottish Wedding Magazine

I would just like to thank both Mark and Louise for agreeing to allow some of their wedding images to be used in a featured article in the most recent edition of The Best Scottish Weddings magazine. This wedding was held at the Vu near Bathgate in late September and because of the great weather and lighting conditions that day they got some really terrific images that I am sure they will treasure forever. The Cheddar Gorge and a Camera Phone by Alec Kirkham

These days most people have a camera phone. Normally I never bother with mines as I usually have one of my Canon SLR’s camera with me however recently I was on a business trip to Bristol and I had a few hours to kill before my flight home so decided to visit Cheddar Gorge. It was a lovely afternoon so I thought I would take the chance to capture a few images on my phone as it was my only option. This gave me a chance to play with the panoramic feature whereby you hold the phone level while panning to either the right or left and a sequence of images are captured and stitch together into one shot. Due to the height of the gorge cliffs a single panoramic shot could not capture the sheer size so I took 3 shots one to capture the lower cliffs and road, a second to capture the mid section and finally a third shot to capture the cliff tops and some of the sky. I then took these three images and using Microsoft ICE stitched the three images into together, creating this image. I know it is nowhere near the quality of an image I could have gotten if I had my “big” camera with me however it has done way better than I would have ever imagined. So perhaps in the future I may be taking more pictures on my camera phone 🙂

Cheddar Gorge Panoramic

What I forgot to mention was that only minutes before I took this picture I lost my footing and barrelled down the hill into a large patch of hawthorn, brambles and stinging nettles, cutting my hands, arms and back to ribbons. The lengths some people go to in order to get a picture even with a camera phone 🙂

All of the hard work and attention to detail while planning this wedding made for a great day were the couple, their family and friends all had a great time and to top it all the weather was kind to use also meaning we got plenty of pictures outside in the gardens and also some inside. Here is a sneak peek at some of the images captured during the day. The rest of the images will follow shortly.
